Bengaluru, Pune Among Top 10 Cities With Highest Road Traffic In The World

The list of the world’s most congested cities for 2023 has been released in a report by the Amsterdam-based location technology specialist TomTom. Two Indian cities are holding the ranks among the top 10 cities. Based on the list, London was the most congested city in the world with people needing 37 minutes and 20 seconds on average to get through traffic over a distance of 10 km.

This time represents the data recorded during rush hours. Based on this, people in the city lost 148 hours yearly in traffic. The UK capital was followed by Dublin. In this city, commuters need 29 minutes and 30 seconds on average to cover 10 km. This was done at an average speed of 16 kmph during rush hours. As a result, people in Dublin lost 158 hours during the rush hours.

Toronto, a Canadian city, came in third place on the list, with people taking an average of 29 minutes to cover 10 kilometres there. However, among the top 10 most crowded cities in the world, Toronto commuters lost the least amount of time per year during rush hour. Toronto commuters lost 98 hours a year due to the average speed of 18 km/h during rush hour.

Milan, known as the “fashion capital of the world,” comes in fourth position with an average time of 28 minutes and 50 seconds for a 10-kilometer distance in 2023. 137 hours were lost by commuters in the Italian city during rush hour.

Most Congested Cities In India

Meanwhile, Bengaluru and Pune held the sixth position on the list, respectively. The commuters in Bengaluru needed 28 minutes and 10 seconds on average to cover 10 km. While the people in Pune needed 27 minutes and 50 seconds. Previously, Mumbai was part of the list as well, however, is not in the top 10 list.

At the same time, the eighth, ninth, and tenth spots were occupied by Bucharest, Manila, and Brussels. The Romanians needed 27 minutes and 40 seconds, the people in Manila needed 27 minutes and 20 seconds, and the people in Brussels needed 27 minutes.
