Greater Noida West Metro Project: Revised DPR

Under the revised DPR, the Aqua Line will now go from Sector 51 in the direction of Sector 70, emerging at Sector 61 metro, which will be Noida’s second metro interchange station. The aforementioned project’s DPR includes minor alignment revisions to guarantee the smooth connection between NMRC’s AquaLine and DMRC’s Blue Line.

As a result, DMRC was given the responsibility of designing the Aqua Line Metro Rail Corridor’s updated DPR from Knowledge Park V (Greater Noida) to Sector 51 Station (Noida). The commuters in Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida will find this project convenient.

The project’s anticipated total completion cost is estimated at Rs 2,991 crore, which is Rs 750 crore more than the previous cost of the project. There will be 2 additional stations and the construction of 11 stations will span across 17.435 kilometre stretch.

What Was The Previous Route?

Earlier, NMRC approved the extension of the Aqua Line from Sector 51 to Sector 2 in Greater Noida West in the Phase 1 of the project, having 5 stations in total. In phase 2, there was a provision to build 4 more stations, on the 130 metre road. A budget of Rs 2200 crore was finalized by the Ministry of Finance, but the DPR was rejected by the central govt.

As per the govt, the new metro line was starting from the Sector 51 of Aqua Line. There’s no direct connectivity between the Sector 51 station and Sector 52 station of the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, operated by DMRC.

While the NMRC and Noida Authority proposed to connect the Sector 51 and Sector 52 stations via a Bridge, the ministry said that the distance of 450 metre between the two stations is too much for daily commuters. A plan was chalked out to connect Aqua line with Blue Line metro.

Benefits Of Revised DPR

The project’s significance stems from its proposed interconnection of the DMRC’s Blue Line at Sector-61 station with the operational Aqua Line. The direct connectivity will ease the travel of commuters on both the lines, and more specifically for residents of Greno West.

People travelling fron Greater Noida West will have three options/ directions to travel thanks to the new interchange at the Sector 61

a) Travel to Delhi on the Blue Line connecting Electronic City to Dwarka passing through Connaught Place’s Rajiv Chowk
b) Travel to Greater Noida towards Pari Chowk on Aqua Line
c) Travel towards Ghaziabad in future as govt has approved to connect Blue Line’s Electronic City Metro Station with Sahibabad Metro Station in Ghaziabad in the coming days. This allows residents of Shahdara and Ghaziabad to go to Greater Noida and Greater Noida West via this route. This line can eventually be connected from Sector 142 to Faridabad.

With DMRC’s DPR getting approval from NMRC, the hope of lakhs of residents in the Greater Noida West region is still alive. However, the DPR is yet to be approved by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India, which will now take action to approve the DPR.
