Almost 4 years back, BJP govt headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the extension of Aqua Line metro to the region, bringing a huge relief to the daily commuters, who have to rely on private vehicles, or shared autos to reach nearest metr station. However, the project has been pending since then, with Ministry of Urban Development cancelling the DPR of the project.
However, in the coming years, the region of Greater Noida West will see a major transformation. While the Metro project is expected to soon receive approval with a revised DPR, the much talked about Rapid Rail project will also pass from the area, to reach Jewar Airport. Further, an underpass will be constructed on Taj Highway to ease traffic congestion. Here’s a look at the upcoming projects in Noida Extension:
Greater Noida West Metro Project
The upcoming Greater Noida West project is an extension of the Aqua Line metro, built by Noida Metro Rail Corporation. The earlier approved metro route was suppossed to connect Sector 51 Metro Station with upcoming Sector 2 Metro Station in Greno West in the Phase 1 of the construction.
There were supposed to be 5 stations in the Phase 1. However, the ministry declined to approve DPR of the project stating that there’s no connectivity with Sector 51 Metro and DMRC’s Sector 51 Metro. Now NMRC is working on connecting the Blue Line of Delhi Metro at the Sector 61 Metro Station, with a parallel platform of Aqua Line Metro.
This will increase the length of the metro line by 2.5 km, and 2 more stations will be built, one at Sector 61 and other close to Kailash Hospital in Sector 70, Noida. The route ahead will remain the same, with stations at Parthala Chowk/ Sector 121, Gaur Chowk/ Sector 4, Ek Murti Chowk and Sector 2.
In phase 2, 4 more stations will be constructed on the 130 metre road, leading towards Greater Noida. The DPR, however, is under revision and will be sent to UP Cabinet, followed by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Urban Development. Recently, Noida’s MP Mahesh Sharma met with Hardeep Singh Puri, Cabinet Minister, to expedite the project.

The priority section is already functional between Duhai and Sahihabad. The train will pass through Ghaziabad, which will act as a nodal station to connect Noida International Airport.

Gaur Chowk Underpass
Another project that aims to provide easy in travelling to the residents of Greno West and people commuting from Ghaziabad/ NH24 towards Greater Noida is the proposed Underpass at the Gaur Chowk. The long pending underpass has got a green signal and tenders were recently invited for the construction.
The underpass will be built on the 60 metre road from NH 24 to Pari Chowk, also called Taj Highway, running on the same route as the upcoming RRTS line. This will ease the congestion on the Gaur Chowk, also called Kisan Chowk and Char Murti Chowk.
