Extending the list of unruly passengers, a flyer on an IndiGo flight physically assaulted a pilot on the aircraft. The passenger onboard the aircraft attacked the pilot while he was making an announcement addressing the delay suffered by the flight. The incident was caught on camera and now the video is going viral on different social media platforms.

The incident occurred on flight 6E-2175 while it was scheduled to fly from Delhi to Goa but got delayed because of fog in the national capital. In the viral video, a man wearing a yellow hoodie abruptly appears in the frame and is seen charging toward the pilot making an announcement.
The IndiGo pilot in the incident has been identified as Anup Kumar, who was the flight’s co-captain who replaced the previous crew member following the norms of Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) after the flight was delayed for several hours. The passenger in the incident has been identified as Sahil Kataria.

He was arrested following the incident and later was released on bail. FDT laws are designed to protect the health and safety of pilots and flight attendants by requiring sufficient rest intervals and reducing the risk of fatigue-related accidents. Establishing FDTL is the responsibility of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
IndiGo airline later addressed the incident. In a statement, the airline said, “On January 14, 2024, a customer assaulted our first officer during the announcement of a flight delay flight 6€ 2175. As per protocol, the customer was declared unruly and handed over to the local law enforcement agencies.

This incident is being referred to the independent internal committee for appropriate action and inclusion of the customer on the ‘no-fly list’ as laid down in regulatory guidelines. The safety and security of our customers and crew are of paramount importance, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any such unacceptable behaviour.”
Actor Ranvir Shorey also shared his ordeal on X.com (formely Twitter), and blamed IndiGo airline for a delay of over 10 hours. He also said that their was a lack of communication and clarity from the airline’s staff a the airport. The actor said he will file a complaint for the trauma against IndiGo.
