IRCTC Apologises After Passenger Finds Cockroach In Food On Vande Bharat Express

A passenger travelling on the Bhopal-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express train from Rani Kamalapati Junction to Jabalpur Junction in Madhya Pradesh on February 1 found a dead cockroach in his food served on the train. The passenger shared pictures of the food served by the Indian Railways and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on social media. The picture was shared by a passenger named Dr Shubhendu Keshari.

The picture shared on the X started gaining traction and multiple users started questioning the quality of food served on Indian Railways trains. Based on the description he had ordered a nonvegetarian thali served on the Vande Bharat Express train. However, he was “traumatized” after finding a dead cockroach in his meal.

The picture attached to his post on social media shows the small insect in his food. Later on, the person filed a complaint at Jabalpur station addressing the unsanitary conditions in which the food was prepared. It was tweeted on February 3rd.

In his post on social media, Keshari wrote, “I was travelling on 1/02/2024 train no. 20173 RKMP to JBP (Vande Bharat Exp) I was traumatized by seeing dead COCKROACH in the food packet given by them.” Since then, the post has received over 41,800 views since then, and the total is constantly rising.

There have been a tonne of likes and comments on the post. The post got the attention of IRCTC. The organisation responded to the post with an apology for the unpleasant experience. Furthermore, the corporation informed that a hefty penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider.

“Sir, our sincere apology for the experience you had. The matter is viewed seriously, and a hefty penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. Moreover, monitoring has been strengthened at the source,” IRCTC wrote.

Multiple social media users reacted to the post criticizing the services. While others reiterated past incidents. This is not the first time a passenger has encountered food prepared in unsanitary conditions. Previously, another passenger travelling on the Vande Bharat Express had a similar complaint about the food served on the train.
