Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared photos and video of the latest train from the Indian Railways, called the Amrit Bharat Train. The Amrit Bharat Train is the name of the Vande Sadharan Train, which was based on the Vande Bharat Express, offering affordable sleeper class travel to the Indians.
In a series of posts on X.com, he even highlighted that the new-age sleeper trains will feature push-pull technology like the semi-high speed train – Vande Bharat Express. He examined the newly-built rake of Amrit Bharat train at New Delhi Railway Station and confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the train soon.

Amrit Bharat Train
The Amrit Bharat Train is a semi-high speed sleeper train that aims to provide affordable and high-speed travel to the Indians. The train is based on the successful Vande Bharat Express and was initially called the Vande Sadharan Express. However, it will be quite different from the Vande Bharat Express in terms of design, distance covered and seating.
The Amrit Bharat Train will be used for night journeys, for distances exceeding 800 kms and boast of 130 kmph top speed. It will use two WAP-5 locomotives in a slightly modified form and will used push-pull technology. With the push-pull tech, it can accelerate and brake quickly, resulting in an increased average speed.
Amrit Bharat Train: Coaches
Unlike the Vande Bharat Express, the Amrit Bharat train will consist of 22 coaches and 2 locomotives. There will be 12 sleeper coaches and 8 coaches for unreserved class and can accommodate 1,800 passengers. Also, there will be 2 luggage bogies on this train.
The Amrit Bharat train will be a non-AC train, however, will feature CCTV cameras, sensor-based taps, electric outlets, bio-vacuum toilets, LED lights, modern switches, fans, and a passenger information system.
Amrit Bharat Train: Routes
There are two proposed routes for the Amrit Bharat Train, Mumbai-Patna and Delhi-Mumbai to start the trains initially, both boasting high passenger volume. At a later stage, more routes will be added including, but not limited to Patna-New Delhi, Howrah-New Delhi, Hyderabad-New Delhi, Ernakulam-Guwahati, Tambaram-Howrah, Delhi-Jodhpur-Bandra Terminus, and Jammu-Chennai.
