London Heathrow Airport recently witnessed a scary moment when an American Airlines flight was forced to battle powerful winds. The heavy gusts came because of Storm Gerrit in the region. The incident with the aircraft’s struggle to land was caught on camera and is now being circulated on social media platforms. It is to be noted that the plane in the incident was a Boeing 777 passenger aircraft operated by American Airlines.
The video was shared on social media with the caption, “American 777 insane landing at London Heathrow!” It added, “Caught during our livestream at @HeathrowAirport. Strong, gusting crosswind elements catching-out even the most seasoned pilots! Wouldn’t have liked being the NFP on this one watch the flight surfaces.” The video shared on social media has amassed over 2.6 million views and continues to get more.
The video begins with showing the Boeing 777 while it prepares to land on the runway. Even at that moment, the aircraft can be seen struggling because of the wind. It tilts a bit to an uneasy angle. However later, it managed to get in line with the runway to perform its landing.

Just when the aircraft touches down, the aircraft tilts with one of its wings moving toward the ground. Even while struggling it gets its balance back. However, the struggle is not over, the plane seems to be bouncing because of the turbulent air before the nose wheel touches the ground. Meanwhile, the person recording the video can be heard saying, “Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Stop it!” The pilot in the aircraft managed to control the flight after 10 seconds of shaky landing.
News reports from the local media suggest that the services of multiple flights to and from London Heathrow Airport were affected because of the strong winds and heavy rain that came with Storm Gerrit. It also affected the rail services in the area.
