Indian Railways often leaves people surprised with pictures and videos of trains passing through various locations. However, this time a picture of a station master’s desk is taking over the internet. The picture shared on social media by a railway officer shows a station master’s desk crowded with multiple telephones with no space for anything else but various communication devices.

The post was shared on X, by a Railway officer named Prashasti with the caption saying, “The Station Master’s desk. Show me a busier professional.” To be specific, the desk had one open register and around 10 telephones. It is to be noted that the picture highlights the crucial role of a station master in managing the trains that go through the station. 

The duty of station masters is to ensure that trains arrive and depart stations in a timely and trouble-free manner. But the role also comes with a lot of responsibilities, such as managing traffic signals and ensuring passenger safety as well as managing station staff and ensuring smooth station operations.

The picture of the desk gained significant traction on social media and has amassed over 238 thousand views and continues to get more. Furthermore, it erupted a wave of reactions from the social media users. Many of the people on the platform suggested the use of modern technology to streamline the operations.

One of the social media users commented on the post, “With due respect why do we still use this system? It feels like we still live in the 60s. When will we have automation in railways?” While another person said, “It’s outdated. Now there are monitors and mobiles.”

There were others who appreciated station masters for their hard work. One of the users said, “Line clearance, gates operation, noting to controller etc. they really works tirelessly on duty.”
