Isuzu Motors India marks a decade of production in Andhra Pradesh, having manufactured over one lakh vehicles and emerged as India’s top commercial vehicle exporter in FY2024-25.
Isuzu Motors India (IMI) has celebrated 10 years of vehicle manufacturing at its Sri City facility in Andhra Pradesh. Inaugurated in April 2016, the plant has become a key manufacturing base for the Japanese automaker, supplying vehicles to the domestic market and several international destinations.
The company marked the milestone on October 26, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to the Indian market and its manufacturing philosophy of monozukuri, which emphasises quality and manufacturing excellence. Isuzu also highlighted the role of its workforce, localisation efforts and export operations in its growth over the past decade.
Isuzu Sri City Plant Reaches Major Milestones
Isuzu Motors India began manufacturing operations at Sri City with the rollout of the D-MAX V-Cross. The facility subsequently expanded production to include the D-MAX and S-CAB range of vehicles.
In 2017, the company exported its first Made-in-India vehicle to neighbouring countries and introduced the mu-X premium full-size SUV in India. Exports to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets began in 2019, while Phase II operations at Sri City included the addition of a new press shop and an engine assembly plant.
The company reached another milestone in 2024, producing its 1,00,000th Made-in-India vehicle. It has also exported more than one lakh Made-in-India engines.
In FY2024-25, Isuzu Motors India emerged as India’s top exporter of commercial vehicles, exporting 20,312 units. This represented a 24% increase over the previous year, according to the company’s announcement.
Its export markets include Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan in the Middle East, along with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh in Asia.
Workforce and Local Manufacturing Focus
The Sri City facility employs more than 1,300 people, with women accounting for around 28% of its production-line workforce. The company said approximately 82% of its workforce comprises local employees, reflecting its contribution to employment in the surrounding region.
A majority of production-line employees are diploma engineers who receive in-house skill development training. The company has also introduced the use of artificial intelligence in training to improve proficiency in complex manufacturing tasks.
Isuzu Motors India said it continues to focus on sustainability, inclusivity and diversity as part of its manufacturing operations. It also donates cut-section engines to technical institutes to help bridge the gap between technical education and practical industry requirements.
Company Reports Growth in Profitability and Exports
Naohiro Yamaguchi, President and Representative Director, CEO of Isuzu Motors Limited, Japan, said India remains strategically important to the company’s global operations. He highlighted that Isuzu Motors India has maintained consistent profitability since fiscal year 2022, alongside growth in exports.
Rajesh Mittal, President and Managing Director of Isuzu Motors India, said the Sri City plant has been central to the company’s progress, from the first locally manufactured vehicles to the production milestone and expansion of exports. He also noted that the company’s profitable growth increased 2.5 times in the previous year.
The company said it plans to strengthen its export business while accelerating growth in the domestic market and developing products and services suited to evolving customer requirements.
Isuzu Continues Its ‘Never Stop’ Commitment
Isuzu Motors India manufactures its vehicles at the Sri City facility, which spans 107 acres. Its Indian portfolio includes the D-MAX V-Cross, Hi-Lander and mu-X in the personal vehicle segment, alongside D-MAX-based commercial models such as the S-CAB, S-CAB Z and Regular Cab.
