Maruti Suzuki has crossed 50,000 cumulative exports of its Made-in-India electric vehicle, accounting for nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports during April-September 2026.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a major milestone in its electric vehicle export programme, with cumulative shipments of its Made-in-India electric vehicle crossing 50,000 units. The company commenced global exports in August 2025 and currently ships the electric SUV to nearly 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.
The automaker has also maintained its position as India’s No. 1 electric passenger vehicle exporter during the April-September period of FY2026-27. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports during this period.
Europe was the first international market to receive Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicle and continues to remain its largest export destination. The company had also emerged as India’s leading EV exporter in FY2025-26.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Leads Global EV Export Push
At the centre of the company’s international electric vehicle strategy is the e VITARA, Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle. Production of the electric SUV began at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat in August 2025.
The commencement of production was commemorated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who highlighted the company’s contribution to the Make in India initiative. The vehicle was developed for international markets, with Maruti Suzuki initially planning to export it to more than 100 countries.
Speaking about the latest milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the company’s EV export journey began with the start of e VITARA production at Hansalpur. He added that the company now exports electric vehicles to nearly 50 countries, with Europe continuing to be its largest market.
Takeuchi also highlighted that the nearly 93% share of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports during April-September 2026 reflects the country’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and growing global competitiveness.
Hansalpur Facility Strengthens Manufacturing Capabilities
Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility plays a crucial role in its global electric vehicle ambitions. The Gujarat-based plant is the exclusive manufacturing location for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle and has recently expanded its annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles.
With this expansion, Hansalpur has become the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to achieve an annual production capacity of 1 million units at a single location.
The facility has received cumulative investments of Rs 25,288.7 crore, equivalent to INR 252,887 million. It is also a major export hub for Maruti Suzuki, accounting for nearly half of the company’s overall overseas shipments during FY2025-26.
Maruti Suzuki Maintains Leadership In Passenger Vehicle Exports
Beyond electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki continues to strengthen its overall export presence. The company has remained India’s No. 1 passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive financial years, from FY2021-22 to FY2025-26.
During April-September 2026, it commanded more than 50% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports. Its international portfolio currently comprises 16 models shipped to nearly 120 countries.
Crossing the 50,000-unit EV export milestone further strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s position in the global electric mobility space. The company is looking to leverage its Indian manufacturing operations to expand its international footprint while contributing to the country’s growing role as an automotive export hub.
