Hyundai Motor India’s new programme will reward eligible Bluelink-connected car owners for safer driving, with benefits linked to their driving scores.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has introduced a Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) programme for eligible customers with Bluelink-connected vehicles. The initiative will allow customers to potentially save up to 15% on the own-damage component of their motor insurance premium, depending on their driving performance and the underwriting rules of participating insurers.

Announced on November 5, 2026, the programme will be available across Hyundai’s product portfolio to eligible customers whose insurance renewals fall within the specified eligibility window. Hyundai India Insurance Broking (HIIB) will act as an intermediary between the automaker and its insurance partners, facilitating the sharing of driving scores with customer consent.

The first phase of the programme includes Cholamandalam MS General Insurance, Go Digit General Insurance and ICICI Lombard General Insurance.

How Hyundai’s Usage-Based Insurance Programme Works

The UBI initiative uses driving data collected through Hyundai’s Bluelink connected-car platform to generate a personalised driving score. Participating insurance companies will use this score as part of their underwriting process to determine whether customers qualify for additional benefits when renewing their policies.

Customers will be able to view their scores, track their eligibility and choose to share the information with insurers through the Bluelink app. Hyundai says the process will be consent-based, with HIIB facilitating the exchange of customer-approved driving data.

The programme does not require owners to install any additional devices or hardware in their vehicles, as the required information is generated directly by the vehicle through the Bluelink platform.

Driving Behaviour To Determine Insurance Benefits

The UBI score will be calculated using driving behaviour recorded over the preceding three months. The assessment will consider several parameters, including driving dynamics, speed control and idling behaviour.

Driving dynamics will cover instances of rapid acceleration, rapid deceleration and rapid braking. These indicators will be used to assess driving patterns and help determine the overall score.

Customers whose insurance renewal is due within the next 90 days will be able to view their scores and explore potential insurance benefits. A score of 70 or above may unlock insurance benefits, subject to the underwriting policies and terms and conditions of the participating insurer.

Customers scoring below this threshold can use personalised driving tips available through the programme to improve their driving behaviour and potentially qualify for benefits at a subsequent renewal.

Hyundai Targets Savings Of Up To 15%

Commenting on the initiative, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, said the programme aims to extend the value of connected-car technology beyond convenience and safety by recognising responsible driving habits.

According to the company, eligible customers may save up to 15% on the own-damage portion of their insurance premium in certain cases. The actual benefit will depend on the participating insurer’s underwriting rules.

Garg also highlighted the growth of Hyundai’s connected-car ecosystem, with more than 0.8 million connected cars already on Indian roads. The company is targeting one million cumulative connected-car sales by 2027 and aims to reach two million by 2030 through its Bluelink platform.

Expanding Hyundai Bluelink’s Connected-Car Services

The Usage-Based Insurance programme adds another service to Hyundai’s Bluelink ecosystem. The company has also introduced initiatives such as Digital Passport, which provides vehicle health insights, and Remote Immobilizer, designed to enhance vehicle security.

Hyundai says the UBI programme is intended to encourage safer driving, offer a more personalised insurance experience and help customers demonstrate responsible vehicle usage through data-backed insights.
