Tata Motors Limited and Iveco Group N.V. have officially marked the beginning of a new chapter in their partnership, bringing together their complementary commercial vehicle businesses to create a major global commercial mobility enterprise. Announced at a global press meet in Turin, Italy, on November 3, 2026, the development positions the combined business as the world’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer by truck sales volumes in the above-6-tonne segment.
The new enterprise combines the industrial heritage, engineering capabilities and established brands of both organisations, with a strategically diversified presence across Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The combined business will have a presence in more than 130 countries, annual sales volumes of approximately 5,90,000 units and combined revenues of around €21 billion (approximately Rs 2.28 lakh crore). Its worldwide operations will be supported by 27 manufacturing facilities, 25 research and development (R&D) centres and over 9,300 sales and service centres.
Tata Motors And Iveco Group Combine Global Strengths
The combination brings together two commercial vehicle businesses with complementary product portfolios and geographical strengths. Tata Motors has a strong presence in India and emerging markets across Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, while Iveco Group has established operations across Europe and Latin America.
Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle portfolio covers cargo vehicles ranging from below 1 tonne to 55 tonnes, alongside mass-mobility solutions with seating capacities ranging from 10 to 51 passengers.
Iveco Group contributes light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, along with city and intercity buses. Its FPT brand further strengthens the combined enterprise through powertrain technologies for on-road, off-road, marine and power-generation applications.
The broader portfolio is expected to provide customers with access to a wider range of vehicles, powertrain technologies and commercial mobility solutions across different markets.
Focus On Electric, Hydrogen And Alternative Fuel Technologies
A major area of opportunity for the combined enterprise will be the development of next-generation powertrain technologies. The two companies bring capabilities spanning conventional internal combustion engines, natural gas, battery-electric technology, hydrogen and other emerging low- and zero-emission solutions.
Their combined expertise in advanced powertrains, alternative energy, software, connected technologies and manufacturing is expected to accelerate product development and innovation.
The companies intend to leverage their engineering capabilities and technology resources across both organisations, allowing solutions and expertise to flow in both directions. This approach is expected to support the development of cleaner, smarter and more sustainable commercial mobility solutions.
Iveco Group To Retain Its Identity And Headquarters
Despite the combination, Iveco Group will continue to be headquartered in Turin, Italy, with its existing brands, teams and industrial footprint retaining their distinct identities.
Tata Motors will support Iveco Group’s existing strategy and investment plans, while both organisations work together to leverage their complementary capabilities and identify new growth opportunities.
The companies have also emphasised continuity for customers, dealers, suppliers and business partners. Existing customer contracts, dealer and supplier relationships, warranties, aftermarket commitments and captive financing solutions will continue unchanged, supported by the same dedicated teams and networks.
73,000 Employees Across Six Continents
The combined enterprise will bring together more than 73,000 employees across six continents, creating a larger global talent and technology base.
Commenting on the development, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group, said the combination would enable both organisations to invest for the long term and leverage their collective scale, reach and talent to shape safer, smarter, more connected and sustainable transportation.
Girish Wagh, MD and CEO of Tata Motors, highlighted the opportunity to combine engineering, new-age technologies, sourcing, distribution and customer networks to accelerate innovation and bring advanced solutions to customers more competitively.
Olof Persson, CEO of Iveco Group, described the development as a defining moment for the company, highlighting the opportunity to build on its existing industrial heritage and capabilities alongside Tata Motors.
With complementary product portfolios, a wider geographical footprint and combined technological capabilities, the new enterprise aims to strengthen its position in the global commercial vehicle industry while accelerating the transition towards cleaner and more intelligent mobility.
