Upcoming SUV gets a 160 PS strong-hybrid powertrain combining a 1.8-litre petrol engine and two electric motors; India debut scheduled for October 17

Renault India has announced an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 km/l for the new Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 ahead of its official market debut. Bookings for the upcoming SUV opened on October 9, 2026, with customers able to reserve the vehicle for ₹21,000 through Renault India’s official website and authorised dealerships.

The new Duster will introduce Renault’s E-Tech strong-hybrid technology to India, marking an important step in the company’s electrification strategy under its futuREady roadmap. The full reveal and official market debut are scheduled for October 17, 2026.

With its claimed fuel efficiency and combined power output of 160 PS, the new hybrid variant is positioned as an option for SUV buyers seeking a balance between performance and lower fuel consumption.

Renault Duster Hybrid gets 1.8-litre petrol engine

The new Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The powertrain produces a combined output of 160 PS.

An intelligent multi-mode transmission automatically manages the petrol engine and electric motors according to driving conditions. The system can operate on electric power under suitable circumstances and switch between electric and combustion-engine propulsion as required.

It also recovers energy during deceleration and braking, helping improve overall efficiency. Renault says the system is designed to deliver smooth transitions between operating modes while balancing performance and fuel economy.

No external charging required

Unlike a plug-in hybrid or a fully electric vehicle, the Duster Strong Hybrid does not need to be connected to an external charging source. Its battery charges while the vehicle is being driven through the hybrid system’s energy-management and regenerative-braking functions.

This setup could appeal to buyers who want to experience electric-motor assistance and improved fuel efficiency without depending on charging infrastructure.

Renault is targeting customers who have traditionally preferred diesel SUVs for their combination of performance and mileage. With 160 PS and an ARAI-certified efficiency figure of 29 km/l, the hybrid Duster aims to offer an alternative for everyday commuting as well as longer journeys.

Renault’s first E-Tech model for India

The Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 will be the first Renault model featuring the company’s E-Tech technology to be introduced in India.

Commenting on the announcement, Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Renault Group India, said bringing Renault’s established strong-hybrid technology from Europe to India was a significant milestone. He highlighted the combination of 160 PS output, 29 km/l certified fuel efficiency and the convenience of not requiring external charging.

The new powertrain is expected to play an important role in Renault India’s plans to expand its electrified vehicle offerings.

Bookings open ahead of October 17 debut

Customers can book the new Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 for ₹21,000 through the company’s website or authorised dealerships. Renault has not yet announced the full variant lineup or final pricing in the information released so far.

The upcoming SUV’s official debut on October 17 is expected to provide more details about its features, equipment, variants and pricing.

With the introduction of a strong-hybrid powertrain, Renault is looking to strengthen the Duster’s appeal among Indian SUV buyers who prioritise fuel efficiency, performance and the convenience of conventional refuelling.
